Dear Placenta
Dear Placenta
Oh Placenta, you did serve me well
And nourished Emily
And when I birthed you after her
I said, "I want to see!"
You lay there in the plastic pan
You made it look easy
And I could only gaze with awe
To think: Biology!
Emily's cord still attached to you
Our girl had been set free
For nine long months we held on tight
You gave her life, from me
I thank you, dear Placenta
Not often, but I do
You did your job and did it well
I'm forever grateful to you
